Drink culture in Sydney

Robin

Is a lot different then the Swedish...
I am working at the Argyle wich is famous for their great cocktails and it's venue. When I am working at the argyle I am making alot of their cocktails from their menu wich is really fun. But I also make a lot of strange drinks I never made before. Like last weekend I got orders like:

Frangelico and coke ??
Chambord and lemonade ??
Frangelico and lemonade ??
Jack daniels and tonic ???
a shot made in layers with chambord, frangelico, and topped with cream ??
Malibu and cranberry juice

This is just a few of the strange things i been making? It's still funny that i not standing around making gin & tonics like a normal nightclub in sweden.

And some other news is that my Friend Adam Macdonald is in the 2 coming months releasing a book about the bartender professional with true stories from bartenders all over the world! It's going to be a kick ass book!
I will keep you updated on that for sure!

For life and the adventures ahead, Cheers!

I got the job!

Robin:

I did the trial at the argyle and I got 2 shifts this weekend, it felt so great to be behind the bar making drinks again!
You always love when you are having your first day somewhere, Beacuse then your are allowed to act like a reTARD with 1000 questions. You just love it! haha! classic!
i was surprised and glad at the same time that I only made 2 Gin & tonics the whole night.. finally some drink culture! yaaay!

And Andreas is having a trial at kit & caboodle this thursday, Good luck to you dude! you gonna kick ass!
So we are making some progress in Sydney now which is really fun! To hell with vacation!

Nude Food Dudes

So… we’re starting to see the end of our vacation… One last thing to do before we’re leaving Byron in a couple of days. Or to be exact, something that Place1 has already done.

We got the wondelful oppertunity to work together with Adam Brown at a party up on the Gold Coast. 10 girls, cocktails, really nice canapés, luxuary apartment at the Q1… there’s one catch… Adam Brown owns a company called NUDE FOOD DUDES! Which means exactly what it says.

We're thankful for the oppertunity to work with this guy and his crew from NUDE FOOD DUDES and of course we would never turn down an offer involving cocktails.

It was an awesome gig, everything was perfect. Fun to do something you haven’t done. New experience… we love it!

surfers paradise

was nothing like brisbane... only backpacker clubs all over the place and no descent cocktails...
but i saw one funny thing they served shooters with sugar rim.. that's crossing the line! And it was 4 guys drinking them... sorry but i don't think they have those for men, sorry? the ingredients in them was baileys and chambord?

And they have chose to call a night club cocktails and dreams and they had a "cocktail lounge" inside the club that was the shittiest piece of crap I ever seen that was called a "cocktail" ? why chose a name like that?

Let the journey continue to some place with descent cocktails please!

listen up all you cocktail lovers!!

If you are in Brisbane you just have to get your ass over to Sling lounge. Its a place located on Boundary street west end in Brisbane. It was the best place I ever had cocktails at. And the mixologists in the bar, WOW they have som pretty cool amount of knowlodge of the cocktail world. They have a drinkmenu aka "the bibel" as they call it, with 350 cocktails. Some classics and their own magical recipes. We had some of their amazing cocktails that contained ingredients like, boiled potato, asparagus, nutella, peanut butter. That's just some of the crazy mixtures they make.
So for you that appreciate some well done cocktails, you cannot miss this place!

This is cocktail mecca!!

a replay of "in a bartenders head"

we just love this guy!

a few wise words about "why you love your local"

I just read a column in fhm by Ben Smithurst and i found it really interesting and so true. We all have our local pub & bartenders and they keeps you coming back. Why is the question? Probably you will find your answer in this column he wrote.

The first time the bar staff at your local remember your beer of choice - even better, the first time they smile, greet you by name and pour one as you walk through the door - is a wonderful day. It is heartening and familial and, I suspect, slightly pathetic, like convincing yourself that the prostitute likes furry sex too. But, despite that, wonderful. Because anyone can choose a local. Really, the local has to choose you back. Which is why i love mine.
Deciding upon a local used to be easy: one ambled uphill from their house to the nearest corner. Women were restricted to the ladies bar; you chose between two beers (dark or lager) and, if you stepped out of the line, the publican would wallop you with a plank. Now, pubs have changed. Finding one to call your local is harder then ever. The best pubs have not been emasculated with polished boards and brass. They do not have TVs tuned to music max that blare Sheryl Crowe at ear-splitting levels. They do not serve cocktails - cocktails are for bars and smart trousers.
These pubs, Though, keep closing down. Their enemies are closure and being "discovered" by ironic fash morons in interesting hats and scarves-with-T-shirts. F__k their fleeting flirtations. Because they will never be chosen back.
Nor will they know the joy of being served without asking.

That was the column by Ben Smithurst.

I agree his with his way of seing things, all if it besides the cocktail part.
I thing that your local place should have a few descent cocktails or just have more knowledge then just pour up beers. But hey that's my wiew of it, what's your?

For life and the adventures ahead, Cheers!!

suddenly it happens!!

When you find these special water holes that have amazing cocktails. Today it happend! We were just walking around and checking out sunshine beach. When we past by this bar and I saw with my hawk eyes that they had vincent van gogh vodka in their fridge. And you don't see alot of those around in Australia. First I just thought they only had the van gogh basic vodka but further in the fridge they also had van gogh espresso vodka. An amazing flavored vodka according to me. So I said to my friend we just have to go in here and have a cocktail and the time was "around lunch" Who says no to a cocktail around lunch, not me! And it turned out to be a really cool place and the bartender made us 2 awesome cocktails. And it was more then meets the eye. Really good cocktail menu and a friendly owner that opened up the bar with a once in a lifetime opportunity. And it turned out pretty good! So if you are in sunshine beach, Noosa. Go and have some cocktails at Marble bar & bistro. That's a must!

The cocktail with a red touch is their "Cloud 9" which is cloud 9 vodka, lychee liqueur, vanilla vodka, muddled lychee, lime and pineapple juice.
the other one is "agahijto" which is agavero tequila, lime, sugar, and ginger beer.  yum yum!!

For life and the adventures ahead, cheers!

backpackers all over the place!!

sorry! its been a while since last update. That is because we been out doing the whitsundays, fraser island and a canoe safari. And we haven't really been to any descent place since cairns. It's only these backpacker bars the whole east coast down. But we got to learn a new drinking game called the "horse race". Really funny actually.

The game goes like this:
The four aces is the "horses" the first you do is put the aces in a line and after one side you put down 8 cards (or more if you want to).
Then you name the "horses" and place your bets (wich is zips) for example 5 zips on place1 horse.
when all the bets are done the race is on. You take a card from the deck and if it is for example spades 3 then the horse that is spades ace goes one step forward. And then you turn the first card along the side and if that is a card with a heart the all that has made a bet on heart ace will drink one zip. And the first horse to the other side wins and the winner gets his bets times 2. And if he bets 5 on the winner horse he/she gets 10 zips to delivere to the ohter players. And the losers also have to drink their one bets.
It is a funny game so game on!

The sad part about this trip was that I had to try the backpacker way to get drunk. So I bought 10 liters of goon with my friends a got shit faced on it. I will not try that again. YUCK!! DIE GOON DIE! If i'm going to do goon again it has to be the caribbean way with rum goon, a 3 liter bag in box rum age 3 years at least thats something!

Sunday in Cairns

Was awesome!!! We started our night out with rhinobar for free food for just buying a beer, but it ended with 2 beerjugs to start with. We hade one more of those and then we got the bright idea to go and sip some cocktails.
We went to Society and had a few cocktails. Society is the only place in Cairns that have descent cocktails.
After a few shots with the bartenders @ Society we followed those guys to the lounge were we don`t remember a thing after the 3rd vodka cranberry with a shot of vodka apart. But we do remember the game they were playing. If any one put a dollar coin in your drink you had to finish it. A our glasses were attacked buy coins god damn it!!
The other game they were playing was if you said the word "mine" you had to do 10 push-ups a the spot. we actually have the same game in sweden but then it`s me, my and mine!
So this monday morning wasn`t the best day we woked up to. So a big thanks to Soceity! Probably we had fun?

So you can have a prettey decsent Sunday in Cairns for sure!

For Life and the adventures ahead, Cheers!

Anyone seen the movie "waiting" or "still waiting" anyway those movies takes place in a restaurant called "the shenannigans". We actually lives there now, not the same place as in the movies but still. It`s kind of funny, because we like the movies! "the braaaaain"
the shenannigans in Cairns

last tuesday night we went on the ultimate party tour. An english tourist bus taking you to 5 different clubs for one night with alot of games and food, and of course alot of drinking is involved. I don`t think we never did a trip/tour like this before. It really was a original chartertrip or like we call it in sweden it was a "svenne-banan tour". I don`t think we gonna do anything like that again, but still now we tried it.

And we told you guys about they were serving shooters in teapots in sydney. They do it in Carins aswell. But, up here they call them "treepots". The reason for that is still a question because we were to drunk to find out? boomer!!
We also went to a brewerey-bar that serves you beers directly from the tanks/barrels that was really cool and they had like 24 different kinds yaaaya!!

Today we actually saw a bottleshop with a drivethru, how cool isn`t that!!
Take care and we see you soon...

For life and the adventures ahead, Cheers!!

Sydney is awesome!!

The last couple of days we been around in sydney exploring and making a few bartender contacts. We going on a cocktail sunday this weekend with a guy who wants to hire us in his new cocktailbar that will open in three weeks. Thats awesome! And we been trying out a couple of down under cocktails aswell. Last night we tried beer jugs night, a classic Mint julep that was awesome and the "we ♥ teapots" concept, wich is mixed shooters served in a teapot with shotglasses. That was new for us.. shots in a teapot! strange, but cool!

Adam, I finally got my first VB on your Island !!

The weather down in sydney is still a bit chilly so we decided to fly up north next week to Cairns and go the east coast down. We have to work our flip-flop tan!
